The Backpacker’s Trail: Then And Now
In recent decades, the backpacking culture has changed; what used to be a backpacker’s haven before has become cemented roads today. Thanks to cheaper air fare, the sense of adventurism of travelers, backpackers or not isreawakened. The ways in which backpackers travel and their actual destinations are no longer the same as before. Traveling somewhere beyond the beaten path is already difficult enough, but locating a place remote, affordable, and fairly undiscovered is even harder.
Possibly the ultimate destination for travelers, Thailand is not the only country of destination any longer; other Southeast Asian countries are becoming more popular also. Backpackers don’t have to make Thailand as their only destination; there are Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Malaysia to embrace them.Same goes for Panama, Costa Rica, Argentina, and Chile for backpackers who have already been to Peru and the Galapagos.
Although South Africa used to be the favorite destination in Africa, it has now become a recognized trail for backpackers. More off the beaten track, Tanzania and Malawi give a more authentic African experience for backpackers today. If you want to venture out in places such as Vietnam and Tanzania, don’t forget to secure Vietnam visas and Tanzania visas before your next adventure.
Travelers from around the globe even have a growing interest with Eastern Europe. A unique example of its tourism infrastructure is the Ljubljana’s Celica Hotel, a converted prison less than a kilometer from the city center. Backpackers also have their eyes on China, Mongolia and Russia. Most of the travelers are taking the Trans-Siberian Railway, making it the key route. From Moscow, trains trek 9,289 kilometers to Vladivostok in one week. If you want to save on tickets, you could buy them in Russia. Being alone in a four-person cabin might seem dreary to you, but, you can break the boredom by sharing a cabin with three others who will probably change along the way. This wholly transforms your backpacking experience.
Russian visas are mandatory however, so you need to get one for yourself. Getting your visas is all worth the hassle and cost when you think of the adventures you will get in your next trip.
