Question about what to wear and take to Asian countries such as Thailand Cambodia and Vietnam?

If going to these countries can I easily wear shorts and t shirts without causing offence or should I travel in long sleeves and lightweight trousers. What is confusing me is shorts and t shirt seems acceptable for everywhere bar temples I don’t know whether if I go I should wear shorts and t shirt and carry a pair of trousers or just wear long sleeves and trousers

Also if travelling can I safely take a backpack, as I would be carrying my camera money and books as well as one or two other things I would prefer to use backpack so I can carry shopping and other things, but without condemning everyone in these countries reading is suggesting it would be safer not to use a backpack as one or two people cannot be trusted in these countries.

If I do take a backpack would it be safer to carry it either by hand or on my chest

MY TIPS

1) Wear long pants. It doesn’t have to be sweat or jeans. Find something thin. I know it’s hot, but it keeps all those mosquitoes away! If you wear shorts, they’re sure to bite you & you will feel irritation all day.

2) Don’t wear anything flashy to draw attention. This is a 3rd world country. People are poor & hungry. If you wear a flashy watch, necklace, earrings, or rings, you’re sure to get attention, and you never know what could happen to you. Thugs are out there & foreigners are their prey.

3) If you wish to bring a backpack, don’t leave anything valuable in there like money or passport. Get a thin, square pouch, put those items in, and wear it around ur neck underneath your clothing. No one will ever know. If muggers take your backpack, you’ll have peace of mind that anything important you need is right there under your nose. If anything, wear a fanny-pak.
