South Asia: passport – wear it or leave it to the hotel?
I will go to Southeast Asia (Cambodia and Vietnam), usually I just keep the passport in the safe security box when I go out walking the city, however, is it advisable to leave your passport at the hotel when traveling in these areas? Do police have the tourists who can not show their passports to both the road?
Thats a great question I ask myself … My short answer is we leave in the trunk at the hotel. If someone steals your purse or robs you, it's a disappointment to lose your passport. I travel a lot in Southeast Asia and have never been asked for my passport, but I was robbed. If the worst happens and passport is missing, its really really easy to get back to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Always take as little as possible with you, and you can enjoy your outings more. good luck!
