Giving Gifts for Orphans?
I’ll be traveling to an orphanage in Cambodia this year. It says not to give to nice and expensive of a gift because it can cause major jealousy. do you think those flip-flop necklaces are too much? i’d have a matching one.
Also i wanted to give on key thing to each age group that they could all use:
Young boys?
Older boys? (i was thinking a football or soccer ball)
Young girls?
Older girls?
Thanks so much!

Well I know that the rescue programs over there always love gifts of clothing and school supplies.
I participated in OCC ( Operation Christmas Child ) and they sent boxes of donated gifts all over the world to poverty stricken children.
Just don’t get anything with swear words, religious symbols or intentions, anything that needs a battery or power to charge, anything that can be broken into shards eg, mirrors, anything porcelain, beware of barbie dolls as they can present a bad body image, nothing edible, nothing that can leak (eg, a bottle of shampoo) and nothing that is small enough for a child to swallow (eg. marbles) and nothing war or violence themed.
They recommended us against all those things because they can be taken back by customs or hurt the kids. And personally I would also recommend against anything that becomes useless if you loose a piece- puzzles mainly)
Things that the whole centre can use are generally the best like a football or soccer ball like you thought of. Clothing in various sizes, writing books (like the kind you use for school and can buy for like 5c each), crayons or pencils. Skipping ropes would be a good idea too. If you were only looking at a few children, maybe a small thing each but if it is a large number of kids, it’s probably not a good idea to be buying individual presents. Something even like a large bucket of sidewalk chalk.
Just double check everything with customs before hand so you don’t go to get onto a plane and have to chuck half of it out.
