Is full payment at check-in usual and fair in Siem Riep, Cambodia?
I have booked the Hanuman Alaya hotel (not the associated resort) , which is in the area closest to the temples, for 3 1/2 nights in mid-March. I didn’t need to send in a deposit or anything-just email them. The hotel confirmed my reservation and wrote that I would be expected to provide the entire sum when we first check in. Is this usual? How can I diplomatically tell them that I would like to try out the room first before I plunk down the lodging budget for the whole trip. It’s 25$ a night and has very, very good reviews. We can use all of the facilities in the associated resort (they claim). However the full payment thing has raised a red flag in my mind. On the other hand, we will have a better experience if we don’t get the management of the place where we are staying annoyed with us. Any advice or insights would be very appreciated! Thank you!
Whoops. I meant 35 $ a night.
When you arrive, tell them you would like to see the room first. They are most likely insisting on the fee paid upfront, because you will find a comparable and cheaper hotel very quickly. I have been living in Asia for 2 years, and my passport is full, and no one has ever asked for me to pay in full up front.
I was in Phom Phen last year, and they promised one price at check in, and charged me a new price at check out….
I’ll be in Siem Riep tomorrow night, see you there!
